The Lotus-Heart restaurant in Cathedral Square

One of Christchurch’s most important nineteenth century public buildings, the original post office is a feature of Cathedral Square. It is a large Italian/Venetian Gothic styled building that opened in 1879. The building originally housed not only the post departments, but also several Government and Administrations office buildings. On the ground floor level is the Christchurch Visitors Information Centre and our new restaurant is housed on the first floor.

Cathedral Square, dominated by the Anglican Cathedral, marks the heart of the city. Sri Chinmoy performed in the Cathedral on 27 November 2002. The Square is at the centre of the "four avenues" that form the boundaries of inner Christchurch. Around the Square are several historic buildings. The Square is a popular venue for public orators and entertainers. There are regular markets and food-stalls and all major bus routes converge here.
